The Temple House Win at HICAP 2016 Awards
(Chengdu, 6th October, 2016) – The Temple House in Chengdu, China has been honoured for Sustainable Project Design at the prestigious 2016 Sustainable Hotel Awards by the Hotel Investment Conference Asia Pacific (HICAP). The Temple House is the second House Collective property from Swire Hotels to receive this honour, after The Upper House Hong Kong claimed it in 2011.
HICAP acknowledged the unique property as the result of a highly fruitful collaboration between Swire Hotels and architecture firm Make Architects, describing it as “when a creative architectural firm and an enlightened client combine sensitivity, social responsibility and an understanding of place making in the urban context. The Temple House is a fine example of what is achievable on a tight culturally sensitive urban site.”
The award committee also recognised the hotel’s innovative approach to creating a unique luxury hospitality experience that balances heritage with cutting-edge modernity: “The hotel has expanded (Chengdu’s) historic center while becoming an integral part of it. The retention of the existing historic buildings has blurred the boundaries between the hotel and its surroundings, ensuring these buildings breathe a new life for a new generation to enjoy.”
In operation since July 2015, The Temple House has already received international acclaim and several prestigious design and hospitality awards for its distinct design, outstanding hospitality offerings and impeccable service. Part of Chengdu’s dynamic Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li complex, the hotel features 100 guest rooms, 42 serviced residences, three dining outlets, a bar and an award-winning spa sanctuary.
With ambitions to develop The Temple House into a world-class urban resort destination, sustainable practices remain a top priority for the hotel’s dedicated management and staff. Besides elevating the hospitality and lifestyle offerings in the vibrant city of Chengdu, The Temple House strives to grow from strength to strength towards becoming nothing less than “one of Asia’s top hotels.”
